Little Fins' Events
Social events involve all members of our Little Fins families. Some of the past events have been:
- Get Together at McDonald's playland (very first gathering)
- Holiday Parties at the Sonja & Jerry's
- Summer Picnic at the Sonja & Jerry's
- Fall outing at the Como ZooBoo Family Event Como Zoo
- Summer Party at Elizabeth & Tom's home
- Fall Family Hoe-down at Bruentrup Heritage Farm
- Winter Gathering at Champps
- Summer Picnic in White Bear Lake
- Fall Gatherings at Pine Tree Apple Orchard
- Winter Gathering featuring speaker from Pacer Center
A recent gathering was held in Plymouth at the Radisson conference room. Our relationship with Otto Bock Todd Anderson enabled us to use the space free of charge for our gathering. It was a great turnout, and we had the added benefit of family and friends who watched the little ones while the parents were able to listen to a speaker from Pacer Center. The topic centered around navigating school and school administrations for parents of a child with a disablity, and being aware of the resources available, including working with Pacer Center
Fall Gathering
We had a beautiful, sunny, fall day for our Fall Family Hoe-down at the historic Bruentrup Heritage Farm. In addition to seeing each other again and meeting new members, we were joined by US Paralympic Team Member Kelly Underkofler and her fellow Paralympian from Norway, Nils-Erik. Both Kelly and Nils-Erik are Cross Country Skiing specialists as well as individuals who have navigated through life with a limb difference. We all enjoyed hearing about their experiences and appreciated their willingness to answer our many questions about living with and competing with a limb difference. To add to the excitement of the day, Boyd Huppert and his cameraman from Kare 11 television station was with us to document our day of visiting, playing, eating and pumpkin painting. Kare 11 will be airing a special interest story about our group in December 2006.
Holiday Get Together
Graciously hosted by Sonja & Jerry, all who attended found holiday spirit and joy amongst familiar faces as well as new friends. Parents and families were able to reconnect, new member families were welcomed, and all children showed their enthusiasm for the fun environment by
(as my husband, Tom, so eloquently observed)
"they trashed the place. There were toys EVERYWHERE".
A true testament to a good time was had by all.
